Support groups help HIV-positive to cope
A new study has shown that people living with HIV or AIDS who join an
activist organisation appear to cope better with their illness. Researchers
from the University of Illinois, in the US, found that people with HIV/AIDS
who belong to an activist group use more effective strategies for dealing with
stress, know more about how to get information on HIV treatment and have
stronger social networks. The study is reported in the Journal of Social and
Personal Relationships.
