Study of bad moods

12 February 2002

Scientists at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, in the US, believe they may have found the reason why some people are always in a bad mood. Scans show that people who report having been in a bad mood recently have increased activity in a region of the brain called the ventromedial prefrontal cortex. The discovery could eventually lead to new treatments for depression. The research is published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
