Simply Sleep Survey

News/Broadcast Network - December 19, 2001

A recent national survey found that for millions of Americans a good night's sleep is just a dream. According to the "Simply Sleep Survey," the average American gets only five and a half hours of sleep a night. This is at least 20 percent less than 100 years ago, says the national sleep foundation. Doctor James Maas, author of Power Sleep and a psychologist at Cornell University:

Doctor James Maas of Cornell University says, "We don't value sleep. We think sleep is a luxury. It's not - it's a necessity, because lack of sleep can make you stupid. You can't concentrate. You're in a bad mood. You might be subject to a sleep seizure - God forbid - while you're driving a car, and it shortens your life. So, it's perfectly all right to get an over-the-counter sleep aid like Simply Sleep if you're having a problem sleeping. An occasional use of a product like that - as directed - is going to make you be able to go to sleep, to maintain sleep, and yet - not be groggy in the morning."
