Pregnancy Anxiety "Affects Children"

The Press Association - June 01, 2002

Anxiety in mothers during pregnancy is strongly linked to children having emotional and behavioral problems as they grow up, researchers say.

A study found that mothers who reported high levels of on anxiety at 18 or 32 weeks of pregnancy were generally two to three times more likely to have a child with emotional and behavioral problems.

The research, in the British Journal of Psychiatry, looked at women who gave birth between April 1, 1991, and December 31, 1992, in the geographical area of Avon, England, and their partners and children.
