Constant worrying can be a psychological disorderDeutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) - October 3, 2001 Madrid (dpa) - Constant worrying is not necessarily just a minor trait, but can constitute a psychological disorder, experts said at an international congress of psychiatrists in Madrid Wednesday. Five to eight per cent of Spaniards were constantly feeling anxious about issues ranging from family relations to their financial situation, and even fretted about minor problems such as arriving late, psychiatry professor Julio Bobes explained. If a person felt worried without a major reason for more than six months, she or he could be suffering from an anxiety disorder, which often went together with depression. Anxiety was usually caused by a number of simultaneous factors ranging from a genetic predisposition to a difficult childhood, pharmacology professor Juan Gibert said. dpa |
