Children “more likely to suffer depression if
they miss family meals”
21 January 2002
Research has revealed that children who miss family meals are
more likely to suffer depression than children who eat regularly with their
parents. Research from the Alicante University, in Spain, concludes that
children are storing up long-term mental health problems by failing to share the
“bonding” experience.
The researchers studied more than 250 youngsters in Spain, including a group of
healthy children and a number of 14 - to 23-year-olds seeking treatment for
anxiety and depression.
