Bruising "Pattern" Is Pointer to Child Abuse

Health Media Ltd - April 23, 2002

The pattern of bruising on children's bodies can help to identify those who have been abused, a report claims. Researchers have established indicators based on the size and location of bruises and developed a scoring system to help doctors assess whether a child has been abused, according to a report in the Archives of Disease in Childhood. The report found that most injuries to abused children occur on their left side because adults who strike them are usually right-handed. (The Times 23/04/02; p.6)
