Boring, passive work may hasten death, study
says
Those whose jobs provide them with few opportunities to decide what they do or
how to do it tend to die earlier than employees given more decision-making
opportunities, new US research suggests. Researchers at the University of
Texas Health Science Center in Houston say that jobs in which employees have
little control tend to be highly repetitive and dissuade people from becoming
fully engaged in their work. Additionally, passive jobs, in which people may
have to struggle to stay alert and awake, can be stressful, causing a release
of harmful hormones.
